Preface: I got a summer job on a beef farm in Harvest, Al. So i'm gonna keep you updated on what I do.
It's the first day on the job and I loved it. The Boss was very clear on what he wanted done. We have all the feed organized in a specific order. I had to load it up a certain way. The calf's in one pen like to stand in the feed box. So we had to clean out the mud and other business. So we repeated the process for four other pens. The last one we did we had to go ride on the back roads up a ways to the neighboring field. And guess who got to ride in the bed of the truck? After we had the feed all cleared away way went to Tennessee to get some more corn gluten (we feed the cows a specific diet: corn gluten , plain mashed up dry corn, and soy wholes) in 5 ton bags. And that will only last him roughly 2 weeks! The loading place was like one of the granaries you see in Idaho. But wayyyyyyyy smaller. we held the bags up(not lifting up just upright) and the corn gluten poured out of the hose above us. It was really dusty. When we came home we had to fill the water tanks and chase a calf (who I nicknamed Weasel because of his red fur and how he evaded our plans to move him) from one pen to another. Then The Boss told me that the next time we he does fence repairs he's gonna let me drive the "Beat-Up Truck". Then dad came and got me. I went home, showered and I'll go again Tuesday. Can't wait
Congrats Spencer! What a great job
